A small sample of work that we’ve completed for clients which include marine, lifting and abnormal load services.

Northern Marine Services (Scotland) Ltd were contracted by Allelys Heavy Haulage to provide a Cargo Surveyor and a Crane Superviser to assist with the move of four 270t transformers from Scrabster Harbour to Spittal substation, south of Thurso. There were also four 270t transformers that came in to Buckie Harbour and were taken to Blackhillock substation near Keith. The transformers were offloaded from chartered vessels before being taken to site. The trip from Buckie to Blackhillock was only 15 miles but took over 6 hours. Once at site they were jacked and skidded into position.
NMS have many years of Cargo Surveying experience gained worldwide and were able to provide a Cargo Surveyor to check and monitor the operations and the state of the transformers throughout the discharge operation and the transport to site and report back to the client. We also have CPCS Appointed Persons, Crane Supervisers and Slinger/Signallers so we were able to provide Allelys with competent, qualified and experienced personnel to help
Northern Marine Services (Scotland) Ltd were engaged by a subsea service provider who had a cable lay operation for windfarms in the German Bight. Two 13km export cables were to be loaded in Germany and then laid between 2 offshore substations. These operations required crossing different zones, each under the operation and control of different parties and therefore the marine permitting was complex. A high degree of co-ordination was required to ensure that all permissions and permits were complied with.
NMS were asked to produce the Marine Coordination Permitting Plan and to ensure that permits to work and permission to enter the fields were in place and done on time. This required 24 hour operations so as to be in close contact with all the vessels on the project as well as coordinating with the windfarms involved to make sure that permitting was always in place and that operations could always be carried out. We were also in place to assist with the mobilisation and demobilisation of the vessels, to coordinate the fendering of the cable lay vessel and to brief the vessels on the permitting work.
We were in attendance in the UK, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands to support the project and to ensure that all vessel operations could go ahead with no disruption to the project. All permits were in place at the appropriate time which led to the successful completion of the project.
NMS were contracted to provide a safe and efficient solution to recover an estimated 150t linkspan ramp that had suffered hydraulic failure and collapsed on one side. The location meant that there were significant restrictions placed on NMS with regard to ground loadings and also what type of machines could be used.
NMS utilised a strand jack solution using known strong points to take the ramp weight so as not to exceed any of the weight limits placed by the engineers with regard to equipment that could be used.
By utilising the strand jacks the linkspan was recovered and secured safely, within schedule and budget while not overstressing any of the surrounding quayside.
NMS are able to provide bespoke solutions to your project needs often resulting in quicker, safer and more cost efficient solutions than those traditionally offered.
